The Prague Gate, Mělník, Czech Republic

The Prague Gate in the historic centre of the town is part of the unique remains of the medieval fortification system of the town of Mělník. It is a rare example of fortification architecture and as such ought to be preserved for the future.
The gate was found to be in a poor state. The façade was in many places damaged with parts of it missing. The upper part of the façade originated from the time when alterations were carried out by the architect K. Hilbert in the years between 1916 and 1920. Stone elements of the façade exhibited a high degree of degradation and the need for restoration was acute. GEMA ART GROUP a. s. was responsible for all the work required to preserve the building. All work was carried out in compliance with Decree no. 20/1987 Coll. regarding the state care of monuments and under the supervision of the staff of the Heritage Institute.
The project represented for GEMA ART GROUP a. s. another important contract in the town of Mělník, where, in 2007, the company was responsible for the renovation work on the Church of St Peter and St Paul.
